Pregnant care: who should actually take care of the pregnant woman?

In the book “Brain Rules for Baby: How to Raise a Smart and Happy Child from Zero to Five”, the parenting and molecular biology expert John Medina – founder of the second brain research institute – tells a story from one of the lectures given by he on the subject of parenting.
One of the participants asks him at the end of the lecture how to make his son, at the time of the accident of a baby, become a student at the prestigious Harvard University. What would be the way forward? More jokingly, more seriously, Medina replied: “Go home and love your wife!”. The purpose of this introduction is to emphasize – if need be – the importance of the support given to a wife by her life partner.

The pregnant woman needs even more support from her husband, who can support her during the nine months – how hormonal changes make the pregnant woman anxious, irritable, …

in a word – vulnerable.

The husband is – obviously – the person most in need of the pregnant woman, the one who can effectively take care of her well-being.

But today, Eva.ro writes about another extremely important person for the pregnant woman. It is about the specialist in maternal-fetal medicine.

Once the expectant mother finds out she is pregnant, she will go to her gynecologist for confirmation of the pregnancy and the first medical advice. But a pregnant woman should know that – if the gynecologist deals with diseases of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina, ovaries) – obstetricians deal with the supervision of women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.

The work of the obstetrician involves the simultaneous care of two people: the mother and the child.

Some obstetricians specialize in maternal and fetal medicine, gaining advanced knowledge of the obstetric, medical, genetic, and surgical complications of high-risk pregnancy and their impact on the mother and fetus, and being able to perform complex diagnostic and treatment procedures.

A specialist in maternal and fetal medicine is the most qualified doctor for performing ultrasounds of the fetus.

On the doctor’s stamp or in his presentation on the clinic’s website where he offers consultations, you will find out whether or not he has this overspecialization.

Ideally, the same doctor should monitor the pregnant woman from the first days of pregnancy until the moment of birth, to assist her in giving birth.

That is why the pregnant woman should choose a doctor who specializes in maternal-fetal medicine from the very beginning, who will take care of her and the baby in her womb, from the first days of pregnancy until the end.

Pregnancy is a rollercoaster of emotions, new sensations, new responsibilities, most often upsetting.

Looking for a doctor to communicate well with the necessary specializations can add stress to a hectic period. Eva.ro meets the need to inform its readers with this information that helps to make an informed choice of the doctor to take care of them.
